Michelle Trachtenberg, a longtime actress known for her roles in popular shows and films like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gossip Girl, and Harriet the Spy, passed away at the age of 39 due to health complications related to diabetes. The official cause of death was confirmed by the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner following additional lab analysis.
Trachtenberg was found unresponsive in her Manhattan apartment earlier this year. At the time, there was no indication of foul play, and the initial determination regarding her cause of death was left “undetermined.” That has now been updated to reflect diabetes-related complications.
Beginning her career as a child actor, Trachtenberg rose to fame with her performance as Nona Mecklenberg on The Adventures of Pete & Pete, before becoming a household name in the mid-90s through her lead role in Harriet the Spy. She would go on to portray notable characters in major television series and teen films, including EuroTrip and 17 Again.
In the weeks following her death, many former co-stars and fans remembered her impact on screen and the lasting impression she left on the entertainment industry.
