MIAMI BEACH, FL — Miami Beach officials will cut hourly parking rates to $1 throughout July and August, betting the deep discount will lure visitors and give local businesses a midsummer jolt.
Beginning July 1, the city will charge just one dollar per hour at every municipal meter, surface lot, and public garage. Commissioner Alex Fernandez championed the measure to attract residents and tourists during the year's hottest—and historically slowest—stretch.
“Summer is here, and we welcome everyone to enjoy Miami Beach with our lowest parking rates,” Fernandez said in a news release. “Pair $1 parking with seasonal specials like Miami Spa Month and Miami Spice, and you have the perfect excuse to explore, relax, and indulge.”
City leaders designed the campaign to lighten transportation costs and steer foot traffic toward restaurants, spas, shops, and cultural venues that struggle when tourism sags. Many storefronts rely on seasonal revenue and expect the lower parking fee to boost sales.
The city automatically applies discounts at pay stations and mobile pay apps, so drivers won’t need special codes. Standard time limits and parking regulations will still apply.
The welcoming summer strategy contrasts sharply with the city’s hard-line approach during spring break. In March, officials ratcheted parking fees to as high as $100 per entry and shuttered select garages to control crowds—moves critics say discouraged specific groups from visiting.
Miami Beach is leaning on affordability and openness this time, urging locals and travelers to experience the shoreline without budget barriers.
Although Miami Beach ranks among South Florida’s marquee destinations, visitor numbers routinely dip once temperatures soar. City planners now promote year-round appeal by stacking deals, festivals, and targeted incentives like the $1 parking plan.
