Misael Gonzalez, 55, of Plantation, was taken into custody on Tuesday. Miami-Dade County Public Schools confirmed he will be terminated from his teaching role.
According to police, the inappropriate relationship began when the student confided in Gonzalez about personal problems at home. These interactions reportedly escalated into a romantic and sexual relationship, with Gonzalez allegedly touching the student inappropriately and claiming to be in love with her.
The arrest report details that the encounters occurred between September and February, many taking place inside classrooms on school grounds. The student told authorities that all interactions were kept off digital platforms—they only spoke in person to avoid leaving a digital trail. She also claimed Gonzalez once asked her to delete personal photos they had taken, allegedly telling her, “the ghosts of his past were coming back to haunt him.”
The case has drawn significant attention in the local community, with former students coming forward to share suspicions about the teacher's past behavior. Gonzalez now faces multiple felony charges as the investigation continues.
