Cuban telenovela star Pedro Moreno was arrested at his home in southwest Miami-Dade after a domestic dispute with his wife turned physical, authorities say. The incident occurred late Wednesday night while the couple was reportedly arguing over marital issues in the midst of a divorce.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, Moreno was using his wife's cellphone and began going through it when a verbal altercation broke out. When his wife asked for the phone back, he allegedly refused to return it. A struggle ensued, and Moreno forcibly took the phone—valued around $250—from her hands, according to the police report.
The couple's oldest daughter witnessed the incident and provided her phone for her mother to call 911. No injuries were reported, and Moreno returned the phone before deputies arrived. He was arrested and charged with strongarm robbery, a second-degree felony.
At a court hearing the next day, his wife appeared via Zoom to defend him, saying the situation had escalated but that her husband had never been violent. She stated the disagreement stemmed from distance and job stress and asked that the charges be dismissed. Moreno was issued a $1,500 bond and ordered not to have contact with his wife for now.
Moreno is best known for roles in Spanish-language TV shows like "El Rostro de Analía" and "Me declaro culpable."
