The Trump administration is rolling out a new multimillion-dollar campaign encouraging undocumented immigrants to voluntarily leave the United States. As part of the program, individuals who choose to self-deport using the CBP One app will receive a $1,000 stipend after confirming their departure.
The initiative, promoted in ads across television, radio, and social media, is part of a broader immigration crackdown. The Department of Homeland Security says participants may also receive financial and travel assistance to support their journey back to their home countries.
The campaign has been especially visible in Florida, where cities like Miami have large immigrant communities. While the administration claims the program offers people a chance to leave on their own terms, immigration advocates argue the amount is too small to prompt major life decisions. The payment, roughly equivalent to half a month’s rent in Miami, may not be enough for most people to quit jobs, break leases, or uproot families.
At this time, the federal government has not shared how many individuals have taken advantage of the offer or what the approval process looks like through the CBP app.
