Protesters across South Florida are gearing up to hit the streets this week in opposition to what they describe as a "billionaire takeover" during Donald Trump’s administration. A series of rallies, timed with International Workers’ Day, will span from Miami to Key West and beyond.
The protests are part of the May Day 2025 movement, a global day of action traditionally tied to labor rights. Tens of thousands of demonstrators across the U.S. are expected to gather at federal buildings and state capitals, uniting against Trump’s approach to workers' rights and economic policy. In South Florida, these events are being led by groups tied to the 50501 (Fifty-Fifty-One) movement, which has already staged numerous protests since Trump’s return to office.
